Step 1: Project Delivery Manager will be assigned to you

Upon receipt of your project by Africa Business Venture, a dedicated Project Delivery Manager will be assigned to your project within 2 business days. He/Her will contact you directly by email and organise a video call or a meeting.

Step 2: Your project will be reviewed by ABV

In order for ABV to select the best consultants for our clients, we need to ensure that projects are viable and not premature. During your first call/meeting with your Project Delivery Manager, your requirements for the project will be reviewed. Your Project Delivery Manager will give you suggestions for drafting your request for a project.

Step 3: Your project will be made visible to our partners

Upon validation by your Project Delivery Manager of your project, it will be made available online and our partners will be notified. Interviews will be conducted on your behalf, by ABV.

Step 4: You will receive a written proposal from our consultants

We will select the top consultants for your project to assist you. Your consultant will submit his/her proposal and their estimated fee. The consultant will contact you directly for a video call or meeting. Following the call, your Project Delivery Manager will contact you to find out whether you are happy with our consultant selection.

Step 5: The consultant and you, the client, will agree on the terms of business

You will sign an agreement with your consultant. Your consultant will be requested to submit the projects timelines and deliverables on our platform and you will be notified to approve the changes to the project and for you to qualify the project as being assigned.

Step 6: Enjoy your success!

The engagement process is now over but your Project Delivery Manager is still available throughout the project to ensure that work is done to your satisfaction.

What Are Africa Business Venture Payment Terms For Projects?

Africa Business Venture (ABV) has been designed to secure a fast and efficient way for clients to engage with consultants, track their project progress and to pay their consultants.

Before starting any project, payment terms must be agreed between the consultant and the client. Upon completion of a project, the consultant will request payment as follows:

  • For projects with a duration of one month or less:
    • Payment shall be made once the project is completed
    • The consultant shall submit a request for payment
    • Upon client approval for work performed, the client shall pay within 30 days
    • ABV will transfer the funds to the consultant within 5 business days less ABV’s commission.
  • For Projects with a duration of a month or more: P
    • Payment shall be made upon completion of relevant milestones or tasks according to the agreement between the consultant and the client
    • The consultant shall manually enter key milestones onto the dashboard and will calculate the amount for each task or milestone
    • Upon completion of the relevant task or milestone, the consultant shall submit a request for payment
    • Upon client approval for work performed, the client shall pay ABV within 30 days. ABV will transfer the funds to the consultant within 5 business days less ABV’s commission.

Payments will be made in GBP, USD or EUR.  We can accept payments in local African currencies if the parties have agreed to do so.  However this will be subject to:

  • All costs related to bank transfer to be paid by the client and the consultant
  • Prior approval from ABV will be required to process the transaction in local currencies

Invoices will be submitted online, on the consultant dashboard or must be sent by email to, with the client name as the reference.  A request for payment will be submitted by the consultant via his/her dashboard.

The invoice must contain the following information:

  • Company Name / Your own name if a sole trader
  • Billing address
  • VAT Number if applicable
  • Company Bank Details including account number, sort code and currency of account / your bank details if a sole trader
  • If a non-UK or non-sterling denominated bank account, please provide the IBAN and SWIFT/BIC number
  • Project reference
  • Summary of time spent and amount requested in the relevant currency
  • Summary of expense amounts requested for reimbursement if applicable
  • Your contact details including email and phone number

How To Engage With Your Project Delivery Manager?

Review of a Solar Project in Rural Cote d’Ivoire

Providing electricity to remote villages is one of the key objectives of the Government of Cote d’Ivoire using renewable energy to create mini-grids. One of the latest projects is the 7-solar hybrid mini-grid in the Zazan region.

We interviewed Azimut 360, the project manager company in charge of the installation of the mini-grids for all the villages.


The company got involved in the project through formulating a proposal following a call for proposals from Energy Facility II, a joint European and ACP countries program (African, Caribbean and Pacific countries) established in 2005, aiming at co-financing projects increasing access to modern and sustainable energy services for ACP countries. Thanks to their previous knowledge of running projects in Africa (The Gambia, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Tchad, Mali, Angola and Morocco so far), they managed to get the funding for this project.

Although Azimut 360 faced a number of issues with the local partners,

Azimut360 advised that the key component for their success comes down to the quality and the role of the local partner. For this project, they collaborated with the NGO Akwaba (welcome in Ivorian) to which the responsibility of the social and economic aspect of the project was given. That being said, the organisation faced a number of issues with their local contacts but still managed to overcome any difficulty.

To facilitate the implementation of the project on the ground and better communication with locals, engineers sent to Cote d’Ivoire were both fluent in English and French. The project was financed as described below:

The total capacity for the 7 micro-grids is218,4 kWp. Batteries allow storage of energy for night use. Each installation has a generator that guarantees service if the weather conditions are unfavourable.In addition, 17200m of electrical network was deployed to provide subscribers and new public lighting. For each household, the electricity meters control and limit the electricity consumption.Thanks to the GbrekoKanian project, the 7 villages produce, distribute and consume their own energy

For each village, an association was created to manage the micro-grid. Each association involved the following local community representatives:

– A president,
– A book keeper,
– A representative of women,
– A representative of the youth
– A representative of the most senior members of the community

Such set up guarantees the involvement of the community and ensure the auto-management of the local micro-grids. The members of each association are composed of the subscribers to the grid network.

Additionally, a Federation grouping the 7 local associations has been created to strength and stimulate synergies amongst the 7 villages.In each village, a community “office” serving as a services hub for the village was created. Among the many benefits of the village for the local population, the various micro-grids provide electricity to:

• 698 households
• 6 schools
• A health centre
• 7 wheat mills
• 7 water pumps
• 336 street lights

In addition, the project created 11 jobs of technicians and new possibilities for the local youth with potential for development of local businesses.

Other contributions for local communities relate to public lighting, and women, in special concern, received major benefits from electrical water pumps.
